Enid wrote an incredibly vast amount of children's books. Her books as I am sure we all know, came in for quite a lot of critism for being sexist and racist. I suppose it was hardly her fault, as in the Blyton era there was quite a lot of sexism and racism without people even realising it.
Blyton books that are in the shops to buy new today, have been slightly edited here and there. This is of course to remove these sexist and racist tones from the books, but the problem you find with newer versions of books is that they get edited for the modern day reader. I only like the Blyton books that were printed in her era, it gives the books a nostalgic cosy Blyton feel to them, as I'm sure true Blyton fans will know only too well. |
